Indiana School Shooting: Hero Teacher, Jason Seaman, Recovering After Tackling Student Gunman

The teacher was shot three times.

An Indiana science teacher is being hailed a hero after he was shot three times while tackling a student who opened fire at a middle school Friday morning.

A student said he watched Jason Seaman run toward the gunman and wrestle him to the ground at Noblesville West Middle School, CBS News reported.

"We were all hiding in the back of a classroom behind some desks, then [Seaman] was yelling to call 911, to get out of the building as fast as we could," the student told WTTV.

The alleged shooter, who has not been identified, is being held in police custody.

Seaman, who is also a football coach at the school, was shot in the stomach, hip and arm. He was released from hospital Saturday afternoon.

"I want to let everyone know that I was injured but am doing great," Seaman told WTTV. "To all the students, you are all wonderful and I thank you for your support. You are the reason I teach.”

A 13-year-old girl, Ella Whistler, was also hospitalized after she was reportedly shot in the stomach. Her parents said she is in critical but stable condition.

Vice President Mike Pence, who is from Indiana, tweeted yesterday that he and his wife were ”praying for the victims of the terrible shooting."

"To everyone in the Noblesville community — you are on our hearts and in our prayers," Pence wrote. "Thanks for the swift response by Hoosier law enforcement and first responders."

The attack comes just a week after an attack at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, that left 10 people dead and 13 others injured.
