Epic Games implemented a third-party payment method for Fortnite, which resulted in Apple banning the game from App Store without any hesitation. Apart from Fortnite, Epic Games was also banned from placing its products on Apple’s app store. Apple runs a tight ship when it comes to its App Store. Developers who develop for the App Store have to follow strict guidelines that the company enforces.
Previously, the company has been merciless against developers who have tried to cross the limits it has set. However, these strict rules set by the Cupertino-based tech giant can prove to be beneficial for users which is apparent in an upcoming guideline that Apple has decided to implement next month.
What is Apple’s Account Deletion policy?
Apple’s Account Deletion policy states that developers who allow users to create an account through their apps also have to offer an account deletion option. The rule was announced some time ago and the company will now force the developers to provide users with the delete account option starting from June 30. Apple has shared a post on its Developer website to remind app developers that they have to abide by the new rule within the stipulated date.
How will it affect developers?
Developers who offer an account creation button in their apps and opt to comply with Apple’s new App Store policy will have to include a button (which will be easily visible) to delete the account. Apple has made sure that the app must include an easy-to-spot permanent delete button that will help users to get rid of all data related to them. According to the company, temporary deactivation of account freezing will be insufficient and the app needs to delete all user data. However, developers can adjust their apps if the local laws contradict Apple’s guidelines.
How will it affect users?
Apple’s Account Deletion policy will help users who own the company’s devices to easily delete their online account and data from a certain server. iPhone users don’t have to contact support or go through endless redirects to remove their data. This new guideline will be particularly helpful for users who reside in countries that have no strict data protection laws.
