Customs seize goods worth N379m duty value

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘C’ Owerri, Imo State, has confiscated cartons of tramadol and other goods with Duty Paid Value of N379m between March and June 2018.

The Customs Area Controller of the zone, Ahmed Azarema, made this known to journalists in the Benin City office of NCS on Saturday.

He noted that the items ranged from illicit drugs, bags of rice, used tyres, second-hand clothes and vehicles of different brands intercepted by the Benin mobile patrol along the Owerri–Port Harcourt axis.

Giving breakdown of the seized items, Azarema said the customs also confiscated a Mack truck with 582 cartons of tramadol.

Also confiscated was a MAN Diesel truck with 98 cartons of Ibamol drug (50 packs per carton), 22 cartons of 200 mg tramadol, 15 cartons of 225 mg tramadol and 250 mg (50 packs) of tramadol worth N11.862m.

The NCS also seized a Mark Mercedes Benz with 327 bags of cannabis sativa otherwise called Indian hemp valued at N11.445m.

The customs handed over the tramadol and cannabis to the officials of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency respectively in Benin.

The service also seized a Lexus ES 350, 2007 model, valued at N3, 318m, a Mercedes Benz G 500 Bullet Proof, 2001 model with DPV of N60,750m,  Toyota Hilux 2016 model valued at N1,809m and Toyota Prado 2015 model with DPV N23,402m.
