Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A key measurement of the region’s economic health remains very positive unless you are a business owner looking to hire workers.

The latest jobs report from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development puts the unemployment rate in the Rochester area at 2.5-percent in April. That’s down a half a percentage point from March and is a half-point lower than the rate reported for April last year. It is also the lowest the jobless rate has been for the month of April since 1999 when the rate fell to only 1.8-percent.

Olmsted County was tied with Winona County last month for the lowest unemployment rate in the region. The highest rate in the region was reported by Fillmore County, even though its jobless rate was down almost a full percentage point from March.
